Wornick Foods Achieves Global Food Safety Designation
(Cincinnati, OH) June 28, 2010 – Wornick Foods announced today that it has been recognized by the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI) with SQF Level 2 certification, a globally trusted and accepted food safety and quality program.
“SQF certification to these codes gives assurance to retailers that Wornick Foods’ products have been produced, prepared and handled according to internationally recognized standards,” said Jon Geisler, President and CEO of Wornick Foods.
Wornick has been providing good tasting, high quality food to the U.S. military since our founding in 1979. We have a long history and our employees are proud to support our soldiers here in the U.S. and while they’re serving overseas. Providing the best food to our customers is our top priority.
Wornick is the largest supplier of individual and group feeding rations to the U.S. and international militaries. To meet our quality goals and the military’s standards, we have implemented stringent food and packaging tests for all of our products.
We strive to exceed the military’s requirements and are proud that our processing and assembly operations are in 100% compliance with DSCP Quality Systems inspections and have been for the last three years. In 2009 we were the only military food supplier to achieve 100% compliance from the DSCP.
But, we’re not resting on our laurels, Wornick Foods is Safe Quality Food (SQF) certified Level 2 by NSF International. SQF is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative, a collaborative effort among leading food safety experts from retailer, manufacturer and food service companies and service providers associated with the food supply chain from around the world. SQF is coordinated by The Consumer Goods Forum.
We are on track for Level 3 certification by the end of the year.
Wornick Foods invests in our employees and their education and training. Our quality managers are certified HACCP Auditors by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). We have onsite inspectors from the USDA and FDA. We also work with well known organizations such as SILIKER to ensure we’re ahead of the curve in food safety, quality and nutrition.

New Brand
The Wornick Company, since it was founded in 1979, has been dedicated to producing great tasting, convenient, shelf stable food in easy-to-use packaging to a variety of customers including the U.S. military, historically our biggest customer. We focused on our energy internally – on our products, our employees and making our internal systems and procedures the best they could be for our customers. Over the last thirty years, we didn’t focus on specific, brand messaging to our external audiences.
In 2009, the executive team and Board of Directors of The Wornick Company made the decision that it was time to begin the process and develop a messaging platform. Our operations had expanded from our military customers to include co-manufacturing and foodservice solutions.
As we examined what it is we do and what we want to tell people, we discovered it was quite simple to explain. At The Wornick Company the focus is on food and how we move food forward – every employee is part of that process from our product development teams, food scientists, packaging experts, quality and inspection teams to the executive leadership and CEO.
